"Ruth Coberly is a composer with a distinctly lyrical and American voice. Her music conveys warmth and inviting romanticism."  "...haunting harmonies that shimmer with emotion. "

-- Michael Canales, Composer and Conductor

"Ruth's music flows naturally, as if a musician wrote it."

 -- Kirk Smith,

Conductor, Orchestra Unlimited

Singers who have performed Ruth Coberly's choral music have called it "haunting," "elegant," and "a joy to perform."

"Ruth's music is accessible, yet musically

fulfilling for my singers. She intuitively

understands the voice, and pairs this

understanding with her sensitive

treatment of well-chosen, powerful

texts."

-- Dr. Jill Burgett, University of

Northern Colorado

Ruth Coberly is a graduate of the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, where she studied conducting with Robert Penn and voice with the late Roger Dexter Fee. She has appeared as soloist with the Denver Bach Festival and the Baroque Notion trio, and has served as staff soloist with St. John's Episcopal Cathedral in Denver and as a church choral director. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association in addition to being a charter member of the acclaimed Colorado Symphony Chorus. She is also an instrumentalist, playing piano, Celtic harp and recorders.

Ruth's compositions have been performed by various church choirs, by the Lamont Chorale at DU, the University of Northern Colorado Women's Glee Club, Adams State University's Concert Choir, the Lutheran Chorale, the Colorado Chorale, and her recorder trio, the Westminster Consort.

Ruth is the mother of two grown children and lives in the Denver area with her daughter, an obnoxious black-and-white cat, a ditsy calico, and far too many books for one house.   When not doing something musical, she is often to be found with her nose in one of those books, doing needlework or photography, or designing and making much of her own jewelry.
